I'm looking to purchase this jacket but am unsure as to which size is best fit for me. My body type is average and can be considered slim though I don't want it to be tight fitting. I prefer it relaxed but not baggy. My height is 5' 9" and I weigh 165 lbs. Could you please recommend whether I should get the XL or 2XL. Thanks

Given your weight I can say that our US L s a good fit but then, I am worried that it will be long for your height.
This is based on general size chart we are using in our shop for normal body built (not fat or muscular). It does not guarantee 100% free of size discrepancy, as body built varies.
But, it works most of the time for our customers.
Here is general size info.
-US S size = ~5'7", 135 lbs
-US M size = ~5'9", 155 lbs
-US L size = ~5'11", 175 lbs
-US XL size = ~6'1", 195 lbs
