On the sizing chart you indicate that someone my size (5'6", 145 lbs) should go with a US S. I should then order a L in your size? The different scales are confusing.

I'm so sorry for the confusion..
Given your height and weight, I think you can go with our L (US M) size.
Here is a general size chart we are using in our shop for normal body built (not fat or muscular). It does not guarantee 100% free of size discrepancy, as body built varies.
But, it works most of the time for our customers.
Here is general size info.
-M US S size = ~5'7", 135 lbs
-L US M size = ~5'9", 155 lbs
-XL US L size = ~5'11", 175 lbs
-2XL XL size = ~6'1", 195 lbs
